Rubber recycling is an important issue in the tire industry today, and it was a prominent theme at the 29th annual Clemson University Tire Industry Conference. 

Executives speaking at the April 24-26 conference in Hilton Head Island, S.C., who discussed that subject are from Terramix S.A., Asphalt Rubber Technology Service and reRubber L.L.C.

Terramix: Devulcanization proponent

Rubber devulcanization was far from Mark Weih's mind when he accepted the job of executive vice president at Terramix, a Costa Rica-based manufacturer that is the world's leading producer of rubber gaskets for potable water pipe systems. 

Terramix makes 250,000 gaskets a day, Weih said, and the factory scrap amounts to thousands of pounds a day.
